First Day of Fall

With it officially being the first day of Fall, what better way to spend it than making Pumpkin Cookies, maybe it will make me feel like its cooler than 97 degrees outside, although it was feeling pretty good early this morning. I have made this cookie recipe for many years, it makes tons so if you can't eat them all, I'm sure your neighbors wouldn't mind getting a plate of them.
Hope you enjoy! they are as delicious as they look and very addicting.

This is what you'll need

Makes a lot of dough

I would always leave some unfrosted for Jesse! Next Fall Elder

We all like them with the cream cheese frosting!

PUMPKIN COOKIES

2 cups shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
3 cups pumpkin
2 tsp. vanilla
5 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp. soda
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup nuts (for my kids, I don't put them in)

Cream sugars and shortening, add eggs one at a time, add pumpkin and vanilla. Next add dry ingredients. Drop a well rounded spoonful (cookie scoop works good) for each cookie, on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes.

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

1 package of cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Blend cheese, butter and vanilla, add powdered sugar and beat until frosting is smooth. Frost when cookies are cool.

A Few of My Favorite Things...

This time every year I can't wait for Bath & Body Works to sell their fall products, my favorite candles are Leaves and sweet cinnamon pumpkin, cute halloween lights, and got to love their soft socks. You better hurry and get yours before they are all gone!

Burn this with the Leaves candle and your house will smell amazing.

This candle smells so good, they sell really fast.

The soap is sweet cinnamon pumpkin.

There is a ghost and pumpkin too but this is my favorite one.

I love these socks they are so comfortable.

Goat Tears for Joint Pain???

Every once in awhile a commercial comes on and after you watch it you think "what was that"? So I rewound it and watched it again and couldn't stop laughing. If you haven't seen it yet, its about this women who has a new remedy for muscle and joint pain; Goat Tears! The problem is that goats don't cry so she sings Danny Boy, plays sad songs on the violin (she's awful), and reads Romeo and Juliet to her goat herd. She even brings a young goat to visit its mother's grave and says, "That's your mama." The commercial is for the product Thera-Gesic for real pain therapy. Who thinks of these things?

Snorta!!

We played this game on Sunday while Jared and Lexi were here for dinner, and it was so fun. It really tests your quick thinking skills, which I do not have, I spent most of the time laughing. Thanks Sara for suggesting this game on your blog.

Can't Wait!!

Biggest Loser season eight returns tonight and I'm way excited, Daniel Wright who was last years heaviest contestant will return for a second chance to finish his weight loss journey. I love seeing these contestants in the beginning and the transformation that happens to them, and how amazing they look at the end of the season. I just hope Jillian will watch her potty mouth!!!

Signs of Fall

Labor Day has past and for me it is the end to another summer, but it is hard to think Fall when temperatures are still above 100 degrees. I can't wait to wear a long sleeve shirt, wear my sweatshirts and make pumpkin cookies. This is also the time of year when I really miss Utah, watching the leaves turn colors, feeling the cool crisp air, and waiting to take that first bite of a golden delicious apple off of my Dads apple trees. I miss my home town this time of year, I just may have to go visit!!!

This is probably the best Apple Crisp recipe I have made, so when you get your apples you need to try this!!!

Grandma's Apple Crisp

8 to 10 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 3/4 cup sugar, divided
1 T. cinnamon
nuts (optional) I love them in mine
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
6 T. butter

Preheat oven to 350. Fill a large glass 13x9x2 baking dish three-fourths full of sliced apples. Top with 3/4 cup sugar and cinnamon, adding nuts if desired. Let stand while you mix together the flour, one cup sugar, salt, and baking powder. In a separate bowl, beat egg until light, and work into flour mixture until crumbly. Place crumble mixture over apples. Melt butter and pour over the top. Bake for 45 minutes, until crust is lightly browned.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, Yummy!!!

Cheered Her First Football Game!

Jakelle cheered at her first football game this week, they played at Skyline High School but played Hamilton, this was tuff cause their 9th grade is in high school so we were playing some big kids. They new they were playing a really good team but they cheered their little hearts out and never gave up till we got our one and only touch down. The squad looked really good and I am very proud of what they have accomplished so far this year. I took some pictures and a couple of videos, but I couldn't get the half time dance to load, I don't know what I'm doing wrong but will keep trying.

They also cheered at the volleyball game, they have to sit in the bleachers for these games but a few times got up. She is working really hard on her stunts but found it really hard to do it in her levis.
