El Niño Returns

Watching the News last night, they were saying that El Nino has returned, expected to persist through Winter 2009-10.

El Nino is a warming of the waters in the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean down off the coast of South America and they work their way up Baja California. Its warmer waters to the west of us.

NOAA's three month precipitation outlook between December 2009 and February 2010 shows above normal rainfall is possible for Arizona. (Im actually looking forward to this)

They are saying that fewer Hurricanes form in the Atlantic Ocean during El Nino, but experts are saying there is a new form and this could bring more Hurricanes

We received a letter from Jesse's Mission President informing us that the Hurricane Season is upon them in the DR and to let us know their emergency plan for all the missionaries. Every missionary is required to have a five-day supply of food and water. The missionary couple serving there checks on them regularly to make sure the missionaries are complying. This also keeps them out of the stores when people are trying to buy provisions at the last minute. They have evacuation plans for coastal areas, if needed. The one time they evacuated missionaries, the locals laughed, but they will err on the side of caution and the locals can laugh if they want to. (Yes, the weather channel is on in our house a lot this time of year!!!)

All this El Nino talk reminds me of........
